TNLC Statement of Faith
The Authority of Scripture
We believe that the Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. The Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, were written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and serve as God’s revealed Word to humanity. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
The Nature of God
The Scriptures teach that there is one true God, who is self-existent, eternal, and the Creator of heaven and earth. He eternally exists in three co-equal persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—known as the Trinity. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and came into the world to save humanity from sin and its consequences. (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:26-35; 2 Corinthians 5:21; John 3:16)
We affirm that:
- Jesus died for our sins as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, fulfilling the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3; 1 Peter 2:24)
- Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, based on His shed blood. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:24-26)
- Jesus physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now serves as our High Priest and Advocate before the Father. (Luke 24:6-7; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34)
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, guides, convicts, empowers, and sanctifies believers. His work includes:
- Convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. (John 16:8-11)
- Indwelling and regenerating all who receive Christ by faith, making them children of God. (Titus 3:5; Romans 8:9)
- Equipping believers for a life of holiness and service through spiritual gifts. (1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Galatians 5:22-23)
Humanity and Sin
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) but fell into sin through disobedience, resulting in both physical death and spiritual separation from God. As a result, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are in need of salvation. (Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3)
Salvation
Salvation is received by faith in Jesus Christ alone. All who put their trust in Him are born again by the Holy Spirit, become children of God, and receive eternal life. (John 1:12-13; John 3:3-7; Romans 10:9-10)
The Second Coming of Christ
We believe in the blessed hope—the personal, visible, and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Titus 2:13; Acts 1:10-11; Matthew 24:30-31)
The Church
We believe in the Church, the body of Christ, whose mission is to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples. The Church operates under biblical leadership and wise stewardship. (Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:11-16; Acts 2:42-47)
Church Ordinances
We affirm that Christ instituted two ordinances for the Church:
- Baptism – A public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ, signifying identification with His death, burial, and resurrection. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-4)
- The Lord’s Supper (Communion) – A commemoration of Christ’s sacrifice, symbolizing our unity with Him and with one another. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
